Casarialto Atelier is a co creation project made between Casarialto and some skilled Italian artisans.
Wonder Looms is made in co creation with Marta Cucchia of Atelier Giuditta Brozzetti in Perugia, Umbria. Marta Cucchia represents the fourth generation of women entrepreneurs passionate lovers of the ancient Umbrian textile tradition, today she manages the Giuditta Brozzetti hand weaving laboratory in Perugia, using ancient 19th century looms. Casarialto chose her to develop a modern and ancient project at the same time, adding the fiber optics and lurex between cotton threads and jaquard weaving.
Astra Cushion is an authentic artwork.
More than two centuries of weaving techniques are embedded in this 50 x 50 cm cushion, which transforms a thread of cotton into a beam of light.
Composed of two bands realized with 19th-century jacquard looms, it features a griffin motif and the phrase by Seneca ‘Astra ad Aspera’, handmade by Marta Cucchia. At the center it is enriched with a jacquard band made of fiber optics and lurex that reinterprets the original pomegranate motif by Atelier Brozzetti, realized by a specialized workshop.
Optical fibers, as thin as an angel’s hair, are tied together and connected to a LED light of 0.1W, powered by a rechargeable USB battery.
